The 2000 SIMU took place from June 17 - July 31, 2000 at the University
of Puerto Rico - Humacao. Each of the twenty-four students selected to participate in the 2000 SIMU received a $2200 stipend; round-trip travel to Humacao, PR; and room and
board for the duration of the six-week program.
The seminar leaders/research advisors for the 2000 SIMU were
- Professor Reinhard Laubenbacher
from New Mexico State University (NMSU)
who directed the research projects of twelve students in computational
algebra; and
- Professor Victor H. Moll from Tulane
University who directed the research projects of twelve students in integration
of rational functions.

We are very proud to inform that the technical reports by Jenny Alvarez,
Miguel Amadis and Leobardo Rosales has been submitted for publication to the Electronic
Journal of Combinatorics; the one by Emilia Huerta-Sanchez, Aida
Navarro-Lopez and David Uminsky has been accepted and will appear soon in the Pi
Mu Epsilon Journal; and the one by Edith Aguirre, Juan Ariel Ortiz-Navarro
and Rogelio Torrez has been accepted and will appear soon in the Proceedings
of the 2001 ISSAC Conference.
After SIMU, most of the SIMU 2000 students attended the 2000 SACNAS
Conference in Atlanta, GA in October 2000 and the Joint Mathematics Meetings
in New Orleans, LA in January 2001 where they presented posters on their research.
